Chasing Freedom
Daniel Morrison created this video to showcase the heart and history behind Carolyn Mazloomi's textile mural. Daniel wrote, voiced, crafted the motion graphics, edited and audio mixed this short three minute video. The artwork is a combination of work from Carolyn Mazloomi's textile mural, AI elements and motion graphics. The base art is vector art and the final synthesis incorporates fully three dimension camera movements, some CG and clothe simulation for the textile mural and lots of rotos, mask and shape animations.
CG & AI Synthesis
It was clear that the textile mural should be visualized with a CG cloth simulation but we also wanted AI to bring select elements to life, like the doves. This required creating multiple render passes for different elements and choosing a specific keyframe that the AI would be asked to take over at. Ultimately, AI can only give us limited results. Ultimately, compositing brings it all back together. On this project the Cinema 4D scene is ported into After Effects so the camera movement is exactly the same and the final composite incorporates the AI artwork with all the CG render passes.
Authentic With AI
There are several elements where we utilize MidJourney's AI image to video tools for specific animation elements but maintaining the resolution and correct camera movement is imperative. AI generators are just starting to become useful in extremely limited roles like managing dimensional animation of an element. But they are prone to wild deviations from directions. To compensate for this Daniel tested extensively and began a few specific steps. In this production, a black and white vector art still was desired. So I began isolating the elements that I wanted the AI to animate. Planning ahead for unwanted camera motion I started adding tracking markers to the base images as well.
